Peace Lily Care Guide
Peace Lilies (Spathiphyllum) are elegant houseplants known for their white blooms and air-purifying qualities. They're forgiving and communicate their needs clearly.
Light Requirements
Thrives in low to medium, indirect light. Can tolerate low light but blooms better with brighter conditions. Avoid direct sunlight.
Watering
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Peace lilies will dramatically droop when thirsty - a clear signal they need water.
Soil & Fertilizer
Use well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture. Fertilize monthly during growing season with diluted liquid fertilizer.
Temperature & Humidity
Prefers temperatures 65-80°F. Loves high humidity (40-50%). Use humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other plants.
Blooming
White spathes (not true flowers) appear with proper care. Blooms typically last 1-2 months. Remove spent blooms to encourage new ones.
Air Purifying
Excellent air purifier, removing common household toxins like formaldehyde and benzene.
Common Problems
- Drooping leaves: Usually needs water (very common and normal)
- Brown leaf tips: Low humidity, fluoride in water, or overfertilizing
- Yellow leaves: Overwatering or natural aging
- No blooms: Insufficient light or needs fertilizer
Toxicity
Mildly toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep out of reach and seek medical attention if consumed.
