Aloe Vera Care Guide

Aloe Vera is a medicinal succulent known for its healing gel and easy care. It's perfect for sunny windowsills and makes a great starter plant.

Light Requirements

Needs bright, indirect to direct sunlight. 6+ hours of light daily. Can handle some direct sun but may need gradual acclimation.

Watering

Water deeply but infrequently. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Usually every 2-3 weeks, less in winter.

Soil & Drainage

Use well-draining cactus/succulent soil. Ensure pots have drainage holes. Aloe is very sensitive to waterlogged soil.

Temperature & Humidity

Prefers temperatures 55-80°F. Normal household humidity is fine. Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

Medicinal Uses

The gel inside leaves can soothe minor burns and cuts. Only use mature, outer leaves and test on small skin area first.

Common Problems

  • Brown/soft leaves: Overwatering or root rot
  • Thin, pale leaves: Insufficient light
  • Red/brown leaf tips: Too much direct sun or low humidity
  • No pups: Plant may be too young or stressed

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years or when plant outgrows container. Spring is the best time for repotting.
