Variegated Money Tree — Live Pachira aquatica Variegata

The Variegated Money Tree (Pachira aquatica Variegata) is a rare and highly sought-after form of the classic Money Tree, distinguished by its striking marbled foliage in shades of deep green, cream, and white. Unlike the standard Pachira, the variegated form produces leaves where each leaflet displays its own unique pattern — no two leaves are identical, making every plant a one-of-a-kind specimen.

This listing is for one established, rooted Variegated Money Tree growing in a 4-inch nursery pot. The plant has been grown and selected for strong variegation expression and healthy root development. As with all variegated plants, leaf pattern, color balance, intensity of variegation, and overall plant size vary naturally from plant to plant. The plant you receive will reflect the living, dynamic nature of this species.

Whether you are an experienced collector adding to a curated collection or a plant enthusiast looking for something genuinely rare, the Variegated Money Tree is a standout addition to any indoor space.

Care Instructions

Light

The Variegated Money Tree performs best in bright, indirect light. A position near an east-facing window or set back from a south- or west-facing window provides ideal conditions. Consistent bright light encourages stronger variegation expression and steady growth. Avoid prolonged direct sun, which can scorch the delicate variegated portions of the leaves. Low light is tolerated but will slow growth and may reduce the vibrancy of the variegation over time.

Water

Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. When you water, do so thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely from the bottom of the pot. Empty the saucer after watering to prevent the roots from sitting in standing water. Overwatering is the most common cause of decline in Pachira — when in doubt, wait another day or two before watering. Reduce frequency during the winter months when growth naturally slows.

Humidity

Average to moderate household humidity is sufficient for this plant. The Variegated Money Tree adapts well to typical indoor environments, though it will benefit from slightly elevated humidity during dry winter months. Placing the pot on a pebble tray with water or grouping it with other plants can help maintain ambient moisture without the need for a humidifier.

Temperature

Maintain indoor temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C–29°C). Avoid placing the plant near cold drafts, air conditioning vents, or heating units, all of which can cause leaf stress and drop. Do not expose to temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

Soil

Use a well-draining tropical houseplant mix. A blend of standard potting soil with added perlite or coarse sand works well to ensure adequate drainage and aeration around the roots. Avoid dense, moisture-retaining mixes that can lead to root rot.

Fertilizer

Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the active growing season (spring through summer). No fertilization is needed during fall and winter. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause salt buildup and leaf tip burn.

Repotting

Repot every 1–2 years or when roots begin to emerge from the drainage holes. Choose a pot one size larger and refresh the soil at the time of repotting. Spring is the ideal time to repot, as the plant is entering its active growth phase.
